Green Broz is a company that holds themselves to a very high standard. They believe dry trimming is the best method of trimming to preserve potency, natural shape, and an overall quality patient experience. I’m sure you’ve seen their Green Broz 215 in work before and the now discontinued 420 Dry Trimmer, just a larger version of the 215 model. Personally, I’ve had a few issues with these models.
I can honestly say that no one in this country has more hands-on experience repairing and cleaning these machines than myself. The one issue I had with these older models is that they were impossible to clean in any acceptable amount of time. There were creases and corners everywhere; and the plastic shell could never be truly sanitized due to its rough texture. The electrical components were housed inside the machine making repairs difficult and high temp/high pressure saturation impossible, which is what is needed for a true deep clean.
The Model M is a machine built for not just the present but the future of the industry as well. The plastic shell as been ripped away and replaced with food grade stainless steel and any component that touches the flower is made of surgical steel. Unlike the early generation Green Broz trimmers with their fixed components, the Model M can be completely disassembled in a matter of minutes. Those internal power units have been moved to a detachable housing. All those creases and corners that drove me insane have been replaced with smooth rivets and flowing curves that Howard Hughes, himself, would be proud of. The combination of these improvements means the Green Broz Model M Dry Trimmer is one of the few machines in this industry that can be truly sanitized to prevent cross contamination between strains.
I highly recommend cleaning early and often, as build up on the bottom blade can damage the machine and compromise the performance. After each cleaning a light application of Resin Clear to the center hub’s Teflon ring will ensure everything continues to run smoothly.

- Steel Wool
- Enzyme Komplete
- Black Lightning Gloves
While the 215 dry trimmer is still ideal for small home grows, the Model M was designed for the commercial market. Capable of trimming 8-12 dry pounds per hour this machine can truly change the productivity of your harvest team overnight. The variable speed blades can be adjusted from 1-25 revolutions per minute. A lower revolution speed is great for those airy sativas and you can crank it up to higher speeds for those dense indicas. This adjustment is crucial for dialing in the perfect recipe per strain. Green Broz machines require your flower to be trimmed at a moisture level below 8.5%. The easiest way to test to see if your flower is ready to go in the machine is to perform a quick finger trim. [0:00] Eric: Hi, I’m Eric Singleton and I’m very excited to share with you the very first episode of the Grow Pro Channel powered by Grow Generation where the pros go to grow. And, today we’re at The Clinic, one of the top facilities in Denver, Colorado, if not the country. And, we’re gonna talk about the new Model M from GreenBroz. We’re gonna interview staff and members from GreenBroz to see why this machine’s the best and how it can help you save time and money in your next harvest.

[0:30] Eric: Hey Aaron, thank you so much for coming in today.
[0:33] Aaron: Eric, of course, any time.
[0:34] Eric: *sigh* the Model M! This is a machine that we have all been waiting for for a long time from GreenBroz. What makes this machine so much different than all the other GreenBorz before it?
[0:45] Aaron: Well, it’s been quite the evolution and over the years, we’ve had a couple different iterations of the 4/20 unit. Ah, but there’s a reason this isn’t the 4/20 version 4, it is an all-new machine. We work so closely now with Health Canada and facilities that abide by GMP standards that it really needed to be a all-new machine.
[1:06] Eric: And just, you know, for our viewers, GMP standards are extremely strict.
[1:09] Aaron: Extremely strict. Ah, you have to be able to not only be cleanable you have to also be sanitizable.
[1:14] Eric: Yeah.
[1:15] Aaron: So, that’s where the 4/20, it was a great machine, it was tried and true, it was our workhorse, it’s used extensively all over the world, but it didn’t quite meet those standards.
[1:26] Eric: Yeah, you and I talked about that a lot. I mean, it was a machine that you, because everything didn’t come apart like the bottom blade and the motor-
[1:32] Aaron: Yeah.
[1:33] Eric: -you could never truly get every spec off-
[1:35] Aaron: Yeah.
[1:36] Eric: -in any efficient amount of time anyways.
[1:38] Aaron: No, you’re exactly right, that would be an all-day thing, you’d have to take out the electronics, uh, really to get into the plastics and the metal it was just a nightmare. It w-
[1:46] Eric: Yeah, defeats the whole point of automating the harvest.
[1:47] Aaron: Exactly. You could clean it, but like I said before, you couldn’t really sanitize it.
[1:50] Eric: I mean, this is definitely not what our British clients would call “aluminium,” this is built out of-
[1:54] Aaron: No, this is stainless steel. So, the whole machine is made of stainless steel but anything that touches cannabis is actually 3/16 surgical steel.
[2:03] Eric: Oh, word.
[2:03] Aaron: So being the barrel, the blades, the fins, the door, the ramp, all of that is 3/16 surgical steel. One of the big things, you’re very familiar with the older machine, all the electronics used to be housed inside-
[2:13] Eric: Yeah.
[2:14] Aaron: -the machine. Now, you can see here, we actually have a stainless steel CEUL-listed pannel. Ah-
[2:20] Eric: This just comes right off, right? I mean, I can just-
[2:21] Aaron: It’s on a quick cleat so you can lift it right off. If you notice the cables on the sides, it’s got quick disconnect connections-
[2:27] Eric: Yeah.
[2:28] Aaron: -with water-tight plugs.
[2:29] Eric: So I can pressure wash this whole machine?
[2:31] Aaron: You beat me to it!
[2:32] Eric: Oh.
[2:32] Aaron: So, the motor we put in here is an IP66 sealed motor so it’s washdown ready.
[2:36] Eric: Where was this thing when I had to clean like ten machines a day?
[2:39] Aaron: I know.
[2:40] Eric: And I, honestly, with you telling me that like, this entire thing comes apart and I can pressure wash the whole thing. That takes, and don’t get me wrong, the GreenBroz was never a tough machine to clean. It took about ten, fifteen minutes. I think I could do this in like five or ten minutes.
[2:51] Aaron: Right.
[2:51] Eric: Like, no problem.
[2:52] Aaron: And that’s making it brand new, not just a clean-
[2:54] Eric: Yeah-
[2:54] Aaron: -that’s a sterilization.
[2:55] Eric: -like perfect, sterilized, ready to go. That, that’s awesome.
[2:56] Aaron: So, on the old generation, the top blade came out, you could get underneath, clean the bottom blade, clean the top blade. Now, the top blade comes out, the bottom blade comes out, the barrel comes out, the door comes out. You can unassemble the whole thing in about 30 seconds. We’ve got nice convenient, little hangers on the side, take off the electronics, wheel it out to your bay, pressure wash the whole thing, brand new in ten minutes.
[3:17] Eric: well, I call- I always tell my clients this is like the Great White Shark, it’s perfectly evolved, you know. I mean, it-it’s ready for regulations that aren’t even in place yet but certainly will be in the future.
[3:25] Aaron: Yeah, most certainly. We want to be future-proof on this but we didn’t just stop at cleanability, we also wanted to increase the performance as well, too.
[3:32] Eric: Yeah, the variable speed’s huge. I mean, that-
[3:36] Aaron: The variable speed is huge, we introduced that on the last generation of the 4/20 machine. Ah, one of the other big things that we did on this, I’m sure you noticed that the brush and the sweeper bar are gone.
[3:44] Eric: Yeah, no more brush!
[3:44] Aaron: No more brush. That thing, it worked great, it served it’s purpose but, ah, again, going back to GMP standards, that doesn’t fly.
[3:51] Eric: Yeah.
[3:51] Aaron: These fins, as simplistic as they look, they really, really serve a purpose that the brush and the sweeper bar weren’t able to accomplish. On those, most of our clients, even though it’s not what we recommend, would have their hands in moving around product-
[4:06] Eric: Yeah.
[4:07] Aaron: To get that good movement and make sure everything was getting trimmed. Where, on these, that actually simulates what people were doing with their hand. So, that upper fin gently takes that product from the outside of the blade to inside, the bottom fin gently takes that product and redistributes it back to the outside of the blade.
[4:22] Eric: Awesome. And, I-I know GreenBroz is always, you know, you are the dry company, um, so this is still operated as a traditional GreenBroz 8.5, 5.5 moisture level, somewhere in the range?
[4:31] Aaron: Yeah. And, actually, uh, we’ve even had a lot of clients with the efficiency, they … it really take a lot of dialing on your product. The machine is super simple. Just as always, there’s not a learning curve on how to use our machines, there’s a learning curve on how to prep your product to go into the machines.
[4:48] Eric: Yep, which is huge, and I think a lot of people don’t understand that-that you’re not, you know, it’s-you’re not just gonna get a John Deere combine for the first time and go … like, super efficiently through your fields. Same thing here, you gotta build a process into this machine and then you really see the, you know, the workflow pumping.
[5:04] Aaron: You’re exactly right. I mean, the industry, it’s the machine that they demanded because everybody wants hand-trimmed quality results and what this machine does is give you hand-crafted quality results. So, if you can dial in your moisture, you can dial in your product, the main thing is that it doesn’t allow you to cut corners. It really makes you treat your product right and do it the proper way. But-
[5:26] Eric: And that’s Gr- not to interrupt you – ‘cause, I mean, that’s GreenBroz’s claim against, you know, the marketplace is that you are the most gentle and the best for the product. ‘Cause, I mean, we’re here at the clinic. These guys have some of the best genetics I’ve seen and they really care about their product and they care about their patients. Their definitly not gonna, you know, throw their babies in this thing just to get chewed up.
[5:45] Aaron: Exactly, I mean, that’s the big thing is you’re not changing your SOP and ch- tweaking your processes To cater to a machine, you’re changing those to actually get superior product it just so happens that that’s how it works best in our machine.
[5:58] Eric: Yep, absolutely.
[5:58] Aaron: And, I can’t tell you how many demos I’ve been in where it’s ear to ear greens and high fives and-
[6:05] Eric: Yeah.
[6:05] Aaron: Ah, it’s, i-it’s one of those things that now we have the brand presence but before, you had to see it to believe it because it just didn’t exist.
[6:11] Eric: At the end of the day, at Grow Generation, we typically sell these at around $15,800, that’s a big number for a lot of farmers, especially starting out. But, I mean, how quickly is this guy gonna pay itself off?
[6:22] Aaron: You throw 100 pounds through this thing it already paid for itself. The average cost of post-production labour for bucking, trimming, and just basically throw in a bag is about $200 per pound if you’re gonna do hand trim. Whereas most of our customers, we advertise about a 70 percent reduction to that labour and most of our Colorado customers have seen about 80 percent plus.
[6:41] Eric: That’s awesome.
[6:42] Aaron: Our motto’s always been “gentle, quick, quiet” but first and foremost is gentle. We wanna make sure that the patient is getting the absolute best medicine possible and this machine, the whole reason the original concept was designed was trichome preservation.
[6:52] Eric: Nice.
[6:53] Aaron: So it’s not to do any damage above hand trimming.
[6:55] Eric: What would you say this thing can do in a, like an eight hour work day?
[6:58] Aaron: Very modestly, we advertise eight to twelve pounds in an hour.
[7:01] Eric: Yep.
[7:01] Aaron: If you really get your process and your product dialled in, you can far exceed that. An-
[7:05] Eric: I mean, I’ve personally doubled that amount. That, that’s them being very modest. And, so, yeah, Aaron, thank you so much for coming by today, um-

[7:11] Eric: Yeah. It was a pleasure having you in. I’m really excited but, ah, you know you do work for GreenBroz so, I’m gonna go talk to Chris who uses this thing every day.

[7:19] Eric: See what he says.
[7:20] Aaron: Yeah, talk to the people that use it.
[7:26] Eric: So, it’s great hearing from Aaron. He’s obviously got a lot of great things to say about the machine that his company manufactures. But I really wanna talk to people that are on the ground, out in the field using this machine every day. So, I’ve pulled in Chris Baca, he’s the Operations Manager for The Bank which handles all the cultivation for the clinic.
Chris, first off, thank you for fitting me into your busy schedule and having us in your facility today.
[7:46] Chris: Definitely.
[7:47] Eric: So, you know my first question, and really main question is, what made you choose the Model M over other options out there in the market.
[7:53] Chris: So, I guess you’d say the main reason why we chose the Model M was how gentle it can be on the product itself. So, with how it runs, we’re able to focus on overall quality and still be able to process a lot of product at the same time.
[8:07] Eric: And, I mean, have you noticed any change in, you know, potency or aroma is all, you know, is all that still there?
[8:13] Chris: I mean, it is um, it is going to be like a hand trim- it is going to be a machine trim, still, so it’s still gonna have, ah, not much of a difference in, I would say, potency or aroma, those are all going to be packed in with the quality itself, that’s what the … That’s what the product carries.
[8:28] Eric: Yeah.
[8:29] Chris: But, the overall visual effect, I mean, it is a machine trim but it’s nothing compared to what, what else is on the market.
[8:34] Eric: Yeah, nothing that affects the end result?
[8:35] Chris: No-
[8:35] Eric: Yeah-
[8:35] Chris: -end result’s always gonna be the same.
[8:37] Eric: So, you know, one of the big campaigns as Head of Harvesting for Grow Generation is helping everyone transition from a traditional hand trim to an automated system. What are some of the benefits The Clinic and The Bank have seen from switching to an automated set-up?
[8:49] Chris: So, I could say the whole process, uh, has been sped up dramatically by the machine. Um, we can definitely go through a lot more product a lot more quickly. So, we’re able to focus a lot more of attention on our actual, uh, crop itself.
[9:02] Eric: Yeah, and making sure the quality’s there. And, yeah, and I mean, in-in my mind, that immediately saves a ton of money in labour where you can pass that savings onto the customer, right?
[9:10] Chris: Oh yeah, definitely.
[9:10] Eric: I mean that’s the whole point.
[9:10] Chris: I mean, there’s always so many more things that you can do besides trimming.
[9:12] Eric: Yeah.
[9:13] Chris: Where you’re going to be able to increase you, your potency, your, you know, overall, end product. So, it’s definitely as much time as we can get with our plants, we’re gonna love that.
[9:22] Eric: Yeah.
[9:22] Chris: Always.
[9:22] Eric: And, that’s what I always tell my clients, like, when I walk into a room of hand trimmers. They, they all seem like their doing a really, like, I mean, it’s not the most fun job in the world. And, what I wanna tell them is, like, we’re not here to get rid of you, we just want to repurpose you into a more fun, streamlined, assembly-line workflow where you’re not just sitting in a chair all day. So, I mean, that’s awesome, I mean, that you guys can kinda back that, you’ve seen an improvement.
[9:46] Chris: And, like, with that, I mean, that’s- you’re able to do a lot more fun tasks-
[9:50] Eric: Yeah.
[9:50] Chris: -than just, trimming. I mean, this is gonna free up a lot more time for your crew to, I mean, pay attention more on your drying process, or pay attention more to your curing process it’s, overall, it’s gonna help you in the long run.
[10:00] Eric: Awesome, well, again, Chris, thank you so much for having us here today. Um, I’m gonna stop pestering you and let you get back to work and I’m gonna go pester, uh, Scott over there for a little bit.

[10:21] Eric: Scott, how’s it going man?
[10:22] Scott: It’s going alright, how you doing, Eric?
[10:23] Eric: Oh, pretty good. Uh, just you know, here at The Clinic, you know, talking to everyone about the new Model M and, uh, I figured the best person to talk to would be, you know, the person who uses it every day. So, I mean, what are the biggest benefits you’ve seen from using the Model M and the automated system.
[10:37] Scott: Well, I’d say the biggest benefit is definitely time-saving. I mean, this is, this is night and day better than having a huge crew, eight-plus people, hand trimming eight hours a day. We can get what they do done in hours.
[10:49] Eric: Yep.
[10:49] Scott: With a single person.
[10:50] Eric: That’s what I always tell my clients is that, you know, we’re not here to necessarily take away jobs, it’s just about making everything more efficient and making those jobs more fun to do, to be honest with you. I mean, have you ever done the old school hand trimming thing?
[11:05] Scott: Yeah, it’s how I got my start. It’s monotonous, tedious work. And, uh, those hands that were hand trimming can now be put, elsewhere. Not trimming.
[11:13] Eric: Yeah, you could be doing other tasks throughout the day.
[11:14] Scott: Yeah, exactly.
[11:15] Eric: Yeah, and I mean, another added fact that I don’t think a lot of people consider is that, when you’re hand trimming, you know, there’s byproduct on the scissors, on your gloves, on the floor, on your clothes. This is a closed machine. Everything that, you know, comes off these flowers, stays within this machine-
[11:31] Scott: Right.
[11:31] Eric: -and is collectible. I mean, have you noticed any change as far as the quality of the trim itself?
[11:35] Scott: I’d say the trim quality is different, is the way to put it. You can’t really beat the, ah, the connoisseur-grade of a hand trimmer doing everything real perfect, real slow. But, the actual quality of the weed does not change.
[11:48] Eric: Yeah, potency’s still there, aroma’s still there.
[11:50] Scott: Exactly,
[11:50] Eric: The c-
[11:50] Scott: -it’s just a different trim.
[11:51] Eric: The customer’s still getting what they’re paying for just, hopefully, at a lower cost because, you know, we’ve invested less labour into basically.
[11:59] Scott: Exactly.
[12:00] Eric: And, how long, I mean, how long would you take, would you say a normal batch run time is.
[12:05] Scott: A single two pond run depending on the strain, something like ten maybe fifteen minutes.
[12:09] Eric: Oh, wow.
[12:09] Scott: Also, depending on moisture content.
[12:11] Eric: So, I mean, really like, if, if you’ve got everything dialled in you’re looking at like 3 pounds, potentially, every ten minutes?
[12:16] Scott: Yeah.
[12:17] Eric: That’s pretty solid.
[12:18] Scott: Yeah.
[12:20] Eric: *laughs*
[12:20] Scott: Definitely a time-saver.
[12:21] Eric: So, I mean, you know with all the new, uh, advancements and this entire machine breaking down and being pressure washable, how long does it take you to clean it, typically, by yourself?
[12:31] Scott: I’d say about twenty minutes.
[12:32] Eric: Alright, wow. That’s … That’s nothing.
[12:33] Scott: No.
[12:33] Eric: That, that’s really amazing. Well, anyways, I have been in … in everybody’s hair long enough. I don’t wanna take up any more of your time. I know you’re busy, you know, this is pretty cut and dry, no pun intended. But, ah, thanks for your time and, ah, we’ll just do the elbow bump-
